Sustainable Design Projects

As members of United States Green Building Council (USGBC), Pan-Pacific embodies the intention of sustainable design which is to “eliminate negative impact completely through skillful, sensitive design.” We have several LEED AP certified individuals ready to help Owners, Developers and Contractors with all aspects of sustainable projects. We are familiar with the LEED certification and can assist Owners to achieve the level desired.

Additionally, our headquarters are “green focused.”  Our fabrication department assists to minimize jobsite waste and recycle materials.

Pan-Pacific Plumbing & Mechanical projects

UCI Clinical Laboratory Research Building, Orange, CA

Contractor: Hensel Phelps Construction Company

Year of Completion: 2010

Delivery Method: Design-Build

Pan-Pacific has the ability to design facilities that conserve our valuable natural resources. An example of our capabilities is demonstrated in the implementation of LEED as a team member with the Owners, Architects, Construction Managers and General Contractors to deliver facilities which have a nominal impact on our environment. The UCI Clinical Laboratory is an example of a Design-Build facility where we have successfully implemented water and electrical conservation by utilizing hydrogenating faucets, low-consumption fixtures, high efficiency pumps and heaters that aid in reducing both the ecological footprint and long-term utility consumption rates experienced by the Owner.  Pan-Pacific is driven to exceed customer’s expectations, which is why we have been and will continue to be successful on complex and fast-paced projects.

Orange Terrace Community Center, Riverside, CA

Contractor: Diffenbaugh

Year of Completion: 2008

Delivery Method: Design-Build

The 39,000-square-foot, $18 million Orange Terrace Library and Community Center project was Design-Build and LEED certified.  The project includes a 13,600-square-foot library, a 25,400-square-foot community center with banquet and meeting rooms, a courtyard and a covered picnic area.

Design and conservation of energy and resources earned this project a LEED-Silver certification. To earn this certification, Pan-Pacific installed sensor faucets and ultra low-flow urinals and toilets to drastically reduce water consumption.

Richard C. Seaver Biology Building, Claremont, CA

Contractor: Hensel Phelps Construction Company

Year of Completion: 2004

Delivery Method: Design-Build

The Seaver Biology Building on Pomona College’s campus is an example of sustainable design which reduces consumption of precious resources.  The building is 46,270 square-feet and three stories and includes offices and research labs for the biology faculty, greenhouses, instrument rooms, sterilizer and glass washing rooms, incubator rooms, darkrooms, walk-in warm and cold rooms, sterile transfer rooms, classrooms and advanced teaching labs and student lounges.

Pan-Pacific helped achieve the LEED-Silver Certification by utilizing recycled and local materials, providing the support for the cool roof and installing waterless urinals and dual-flush toilets.

Woodbury University, Burbank, CA

Contractor: Swinerton Builders

Year of Completion: 2008

Delivery Method: Design-Build

Pan-Pacific participation in the addition to the architectural department included a 19,000-square-foot structure which houses two floors of studio and critique space in an open arrangement.   Inside the building, exposed interior construction and plumbing systems serve as teaching tools for tomorrow’s architects and provided Pan-Pacific with the unique challenge to install our systems with meticulous attention to design and detail for both ascetic and educational purposes.

Through the Design-Build process, Pan-Pacific’s Preconstruction team was able to suggest many sustainable ideas to aid in the LEED Certification process.  For example, we suggested and installed recycled materials such as cast iron pipe and fittings, dual-flush water closets and ultra-low flush urinals to reduce water usage and storm water mitigation to minimize rain water runoff that goes into the storm drains.

Symantec, Culver City, CA

Contractor: Webcor Construction

Year of Completion:  2007

The Symantec Culver City office complex is a construction project comprising 497,000 square feet of office space and a six-level parking structure. Principles of sustainability were incorporated throughout the design and construction of the building, and the project achieved a LEED-Gold Certification.

Amongst other features, the project was built with an advanced under floor ventilation system designed to deliver optimal thermal comfort control for building occupants, indoor fixtures that reduce water use by more than 40 percent, and an active pH control system at the cooling towers, which significantly reduces the need to use potable water for maintaining building systems. Combined with the project’s other water-saving measures, this saves close to 2.5 million gallons of potable water per year.

Pan-Pacific was proud to a part of this project and our LEED AP experts worked hand-in-hand with the Symantec representatives to ensure the LEED-Gold rating.
